Pursuit
At-a-Glance
Pursuit can be facilitated as a half-day (3.5 hours) or full-day (7 hours) program, and can be facilitated indoors or outdoors at almost any location. This is an adventurous, multi-tasking team building program that can be customized to meet the client’s goals.
The lead facilitator takes teams of 10-12 through the rules, guidelines, timing, etc., then hands out backpacks containing supplies, maps, a camera and other items needed to successfully complete the challenges that constitute Pursuit. These challenges are a mix of problem-solving initiatives, physical challenges and puzzles. The teams review the challenges and backpack supplies, then strategize when they will attempt various challenges, how to get to the challenge locations and formulate a plan. Some of the challenges are self-directed (e.g. Photo Challenge, Trivia), and others are facilitated by AAI staff. Finally, we announce team scores and recognize superior efforts in leadership, communication and other areas in a fun and humorous fashion.
The Facilitators’ Role
Prep
- Review all pre-program communication & instructions in detail.
- Practice introductions of activities at home and with facilitators onsite.
Logistics
- Help with final activity set-up.
- Releases: collect and review for skipped signatures, cross-outs and missing dates; communicate with lead facilitator as needed.
- Supplies: distribute and collect team backpacks.
- Photos: take pictures throughout program and most important and often forgotten, a final large group photo.
Facilitation
- Lead facilitator introduces the program.
- Be a super star! Be proactive and anticipate needs.
- All Facilitators facilitate activities (fair and fun is priority!) collect answers and award points. It is important that you have mostly memorized the activity instructions, which demonstrates your knowledge/experience to the client teams. You may be a timekeeper or possibly a note-taker.
- Lead facilitator wraps up program by leading a large group debrief.
Clean-up
- Pack supplies for return shipping.
Why Pursuit is Such a Great Program!
- Learn how to collaborate across teams.
- Practice team decision making and problem solving.
- Illuminate communication and leadership strengths and areas for improvement.
- Plan and execute according to a team-developed strategy.
- Learn how your team allocates resources and organizes around roles and responsibilities.
Portable – We can lead Pursuits at almost any park or conference center around the U.S.
Adaptable – Pursuit works indoors or out of doors (or both) on the ugly conference center carpeting, or sand, grass, snow or concrete patios.
Customizable – Because we have dozens of challenges to choose from, and myriad ways to facilitate each of those challenges in order to create just the right learning experiences, Pursuit is never the same program twice. Not only can we modify Pursuit to fit learning objectives, but we can also tailor the “packaging” (signs and handouts) to match our clients’ retreat themes or motifs.
Scaleable – Pursuit works just as well for groups of 20 as it does for 600. It is facilitated differently, with different results, but it is effective for a wide range of group sizes.
Fun – Participants are up and out of their chairs (hopefully outside) tackling fun challenges together. Between the physical challenges like The Web, puzzles like MindStretchers, and problem-solving tasks like Leaky Pipe, there’s something for everyone.
